Netflix’s The Silent Sea is a Korean sci-fi thriller where sometime in the future, the Earth is one big desert and one team is tasked go to the moon to retrieve a mysterious sample from an abandoned lab that will presumably save humanity. Does that spark your interest? Good news—Netflix dropped a trailer today to give us a tease of what the film is about.
The sci-fi thriller has a mystery element, and the trailer suggests that the crew might not know all the details of their apparent mission. We do know, however, that the mission is risky—there’s only a ten percent chance that everyone survives. Based on the brief image of a crashing shuttle, I bet the crew doesn’t beat those odds.
The Silent Sea stars Bae Doona (Kingdom, Sense8) as astrobiologist Doctor Song Ji-an, who wants to uncover the truth behind the so-called accident at the Moon’s abandoned lab. It also stars Gong Yoo (Train to Busan) as exploration leader Han Yun-jae, and Lee Joon (Lucky) as head engineer Captain Ryu Tae-seok. It’s directed by Choi Hang-yong—who also directed the short film the series is based upon, The Sea of Tranquility—and written by Park Eun-kyo (2009’s Mother).
The Silent Sea premieres on Netflix on December 24, 2021.
